Yesterday I posted a single photo out of a series of photos I took of an immature Ferruginous Hawk two days ago in the west desert. In that post I said I’d be posting more of them very soon. These are those photos.
Occasionally a photo with obvious and significant flaws grabs me and won’t let go. This is one of them.
All fighting birds are difficult to photograph well but fighting Snowy Egrets are harder than most.
Two, count’em TWO, magnificent Golden Eagles right in front of me to choose from but I didn’t even see the one that would have been the best opportunity by far until it was too late.
I didn’t find any raptors to speak of yesterday at Farmington Bay but I did find some highly agitated Snowy Egrets. This is one of them.
For reasons that should be obvious I call this guy Bloody Bill. When you think about it the name works two ways.
When other kleptoparasitic birds are around there are easier prey to swallow than crayfish, especially with all their legs and defensive pincers.
I wasn’t impressed with most of the bird photos I took yesterday morning but I thought these honey bee photos were pretty interesting.
