Magpies Working On Their Nest

A week ago today Black-billed Magpies were diligent about their nest-building.

Photographing these owls fighting over territory was the chance of a lifetime for me.

Plus a past due explanation for why readers may have noticed a recent unfortunate trend on Feathered Photography.

At this tender age they’re curious about everything.

I was extremely happy to make this connection between my Dudley ancestor and the extinct Passenger Pigeon.

And he was quite insistent about whatever he was trying to tell her (I have my suspicions about what it was).

A photo like this one inspires me because it shows me what’s possible but that doesn’t take the pain away when I screw it up.

Two years ago I’d have given my shutter finger for a shot like this.

This is one of the better views I have of the field marks of a juvenile Golden Eagle in flight.

It wasn’t much of an assist but just the fact that the magpie could/would do it for so little gain amazed me.
