I wasn&#8217;t optimistic for flight shots because even if he did take off he was most likely to take off away from me. At first I thought he was about to preen his lower neck because birds often stretch their neck vertically before doing so. For an instant I thought he was rousing but a nanosecond later my brain interpreted the behavior as the beginning of a threat\/defensive posture that probably signaled another bird flying in aggressively. portion of their encounter.<\/p>\n<p>After this shot was taken I lost sight of them through my viewfinder so I watched them with my naked eye as they spiraled all the way down to the ground, still locked together. They fought on the ground for 13 minutes before one flew off and then the other.
