I’ve never posted images of a Plumbeous Vireo on my blog before\u00a0and this bird is yet another species I owe to my time at the “porcupine bush”.<\/p>\n

I photographed the little skulker three days ago but\u00a0“he” wouldn’t come out to play.\u00a0He was searching for a meal in a thicket of twigs and branches and\u00a0I just couldn’t get a clean look at the bird. That broad,\u00a0bright eye ring with the dark loral streak from the eye to the base of the bill is pretty distinctive of three closely related vireo species (Plumbeous, Cassin’s and Blue-headed)\u00a0and we get a good look at both in this view.<\/p>\n

I didn’t know it at the time but I believe he’s already spotted his next meal.<\/p>\n

He leaned far over and poked his beak around in and near the bark of the tree and came up with…<\/p>\n

a succulent moth which he quickly devoured.<\/p>\n

The images lack aesthetics but I enjoyed\u00a0the\u00a0brief look at interesting\u00a0behavior and I wanted to make today’s post a short one anyway. I’m exhausted after yesterday’s lengthy blog\u00a0post and the effort it took to get\u00a0all those\u00a0photos and compose the post\u00a0and then the rest of the day was truly a day from hell caused by, of all things, a refrigerator repairman.<\/p>\n

I’ll spare you the details but if I weren’t a dedicated\u00a0pacifist by nature there might be a story to tell…<\/p>\n
