<\/p>\nSome folks don’t have much appreciation for photos of Tundra Swans but I’m not one of\u00a0them. Most\u00a0winters around here they’re completely unapproachable but this year has been\u00a0different and I’ve\u00a0been able to get\u00a0close to them several times. All three of\u00a0these\u00a0photos were taken two weeks ago at Bear River MBR.<\/p>\n

1\/1000, f\/9, ISO 800, Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 500mm f\/4L IS II USM + EF 1.4 III Extender, not baited, set up or called in<\/em><\/p>\n I think this\u00a0one gives the viewer some sense of their impressive 5 1\/2′ wingspan. I like the setting, the misty look of the background, the eye contact, the good detail that even includes some light in the eye and the contrast of the largely white swan to the black of the bird’s feet, legs, bill and eye.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n 1\/1000, f\/9, ISO 800, Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 500mm f\/4L IS II USM + EF 1.4 III Extender, not baited, set up or called in<\/em><\/p>\n Eight shots later the same swan had gained elevation which put the Promontory Mountains in the background and\u00a0the stand of phrags at bottom now\u00a0anchors the image.<\/p>\n I was able to get many photos of this bird from the beginning of takeoff from the water until it veered away\u00a0to the north in flight but these days, because of my ongoing bout with shingles, long blog posts with many images just aren’t in my repertoire. Hopefully I’ll be able to post longer series of images\u00a0soon.<\/p>\n I’ve\u00a0learned something interesting\u00a0about herpes zoster during this last nine days of shingles pain. If you go to the doctor and he\/she diagnoses you with shingles they don’t charge you for the office visit. Why? Because shingles\u00a0are “on the house”.<\/p>\n Sorry about that! It’s a groaner I know but that\u00a0cheesy joke, told to me over the phone by\u00a0my daughter Shannon a few days ago, provided me with one of the few laughs I’ve had recently so I decided to share. Shannon knows her dad’s primitive\u00a0sense of humor\u00a0pretty well.<\/p>\n Ron<\/p>\n PS – At the last minute I decided to include the following photo as a “bonus shot”. The light was poor and some of\u00a0the whites don’t have much detail but I do\u00a0like the\u00a0seemingly choreographed\u00a0body postures\u00a0of the three\u00a0swans taking off\u00a0with their heads and necks sticking up in\u00a0perfectly spaced and positioned stacked layers.<\/em><\/p>\n These days I appreciate anything that amuses me…\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/tundra-swan-1370-ron-dudley.jpg\" "\\"tundra-swan-1370-ron-dudley\\"")
