Crashing through the reeds had covered the deer&#8217;s face with spider silk and the debris that had stuck to it. And sure enough, one of the spiders that had produced the silk\u00a0came along for the ride. But first\u00a0a little background:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The\u00a0Great Salt Lake\u00a0has the largest staging concentration of Wilson&#8217;s Phalaropes in the world as they migrate south from their northern\u00a0breeding grounds. Numbers of these birds\u00a0on the lake\u00a0often exceed 500,000\u00a0and that doesn&#8217;t include the smaller number of\u00a0Red-necked Phalaropes mixed in with them. Watching them was truly hypnotizing.<\/p>\n<p>If you live close to the\u00a0island I highly recommend that you\u00a0make the trip and enjoy one of the wonders of nature. I think early morning light provides the best experience.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0go I&#8217;m confident you won&#8217;t regret making the\u00a0trip (but bring spotting scopes or binocs because\u00a0most of them aren&#8217;t particularly close to the causeway).<\/p>\n<p>Ron<\/p>\n<p><em>PS &#8211; The Great Salt Lake is a hugely important stopover for many other\u00a0species of migrating birds (in addition to phalaropes).
