No great photography today but some interesting behavior.<\/p>\n

I’ve often seen and photographed\u00a0various bird species hacking up a pellet but this was my first experience with one vomiting.<\/p>\n

\u00a0When I first got this Northern Harrier in my viewfinder I thought it was acting slightly odd – it seemed\u00a0lethargic, reluctant to fly and its head was hanging low.\u00a0 Then it suddenly vomited.<\/p>\n

The vomitus was thick, mucus-like and stringy and I’m quite sure no pellet was expelled.<\/p>\n

I had an email discussion\u00a0about this behavior with a friend (thanks once again Ingrid)\u00a0and sent her these photos.\u00a0\u00a0They were forwarded to the Cascades Raptor Center who said that this behavior is something they’ve not seen before and that it isn’t “normal”.<\/p>\n

When this bird had finished vomiting it stayed perched (very unusual) as I drove through a gate perhaps 25′ to the right of the\u00a0bird.\u00a0\u00a0I drove down the road to let\u00a0it recover in peace and when I returned about a\u00a0half hour later it was gone.<\/p>\n
