1\/4000, f\/6.3, ISO 800, Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 500mm f\/4L IS II USM + EF 1.4 III Extender, not baited, set up or called in<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nI was able to get an entire series of images\u00a0of this Barn Owl in flight as it hunted near the road last December at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge but I’ve never posted this particular\u00a0shot because there’s no light in the eye. When I stumbled across the image again last night I had a change of heart and I include the rationale behind that decision below.<\/p>\n
I like the background in this shot very much. And I realized that I much prefer this image as it is (including the lack of a catch light)\u00a0over a similar image with a catch light\u00a0but a featureless, homogenous\u00a0sky\u00a0as background. If I’d have posted that second type of image (and I would have)\u00a0why would I not post this one which I like even more? It just doesn’t make any sense…<\/p>\n
No image is perfect and sometimes I stick with my initial knee-jerk reaction to a photo longer than I should. This was one of those times.
