I encountered this eagle two weeks ago in the Promontory Mountains of northern Utah.<\/p>\n

\"golden-eagle-5902-ron-dudley\"1\/2000, f\/6.3, ISO 400, Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF 500mm f\/4L IS II USM + EF 1.4 III Extender, not baited, set up or called in<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It had recently taken off from a large boulder but by the time this image was taken the bird had its legs tucked and was in full flight. I like the position of the right wing, the tilt of the tail that gives us a look at its underside and the rabbitbrush, sagebrush and sunflowers in the setting. The eagle is slightly past me but I can live with that.<\/p>\n

Based largely\u00a0on the white “window” or wing patch I believe the bird to be a juvenile.<\/p>\n

It was one of three Golden Eagles in the same area and they hung out together for some time so I suspect they were a family unit since young birds remain with their parents for up to 6 months after fledging.<\/p>\n
