Not long after this shot was taken he attempted to pounce on an apparent nearby vole but he missed it and soon flew to another low perch. I was able to photograph him in all three places so I may post some of those images in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Regular readers know that I&#8217;ve photographed many Short-eared Owls in Utah this spring but I&#8217;ve also been pleasantly surprised by how many of them I&#8217;ve seen in southwest Montana and Idaho\u00a0this trip.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping that suggests a good year for this species in the entire Intermountain West.
