This male Cassin’s Finch was a pleasant surprise.<\/p>\n

1\/1000, f\/6.3, ISO 800, Canon 7D Mark II,<\/strong><\/em> Canon EF 500mm f\/4L IS II USM + 1.4 tc, not baited, set up or called in<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

He was among the first subjects I photographed on this camping trip and I found him in a conifer near the Montana\/Idaho border. He gave me a variety of poses in a setting I like so it was a good photographic beginning to the trip.<\/p>\n

We had unexpected clouds and lousy light\u00a0all day yesterday so things went downhill from there but as I type this at 4:30 AM the skies are mostly clear and filled with stars so I’m encouraged.<\/p>\n

Now if only the birds cooperate today…<\/p>\n
