<\/p>\nOut of all the elements involved in an image sometimes\u00a0for me it’s the light that “outshines” all others.<\/p>\n

\u00a01\/400, f\/9, ISO 500, Canon 40D, Canon<\/em> EF500mm f\/4L IS USM +1.4 tc, not baited, set up or called in<\/strong><\/p>\n This photo, taken on August 2, 2009 with the now near-obsolete Canon 40D, is one of the older images in my portfolio. This bird, its siblings and parents, had a burrow along the narrow causeway to Antelope Island so they had become very tolerant of traffic and I spent many early mornings photographing the adorable family. This shot was taken at 6:04 AM just as the\u00a0sun was coming up\u00a0over the\u00a0nearby Wasatch Mountains and the light was beginning to reach the owl so the top half of the bird and the upper background are bathed in very warm light while the rest of the image is still in shade. I like the effect.<\/p>\n This image brings back extra-fond memories for me. I photographed this family for several weeks and I swear they got to know me (or at least my vehicle)\u00a0as well as I knew them. I don’t remember ever having other photographers photographing these birds while I was there (these days a conspicuous burrow like this would\u00a0attract lots of attention from photogs and because I despise shooting in crowds and try\u00a0hard to avoid disturbing my subjects\u00a0I’d be elsewhere).<\/p>\n This\u00a0owl is actually a sibling to several of the juveniles featured in\u00a0one of the rotating banner images\u00a0at the top of my blog. In fact one or more of them is likely the same bird.<\/p>\n Burrowing Owls live up to 9 years and I like to think that at least some members of this family are still out there, flying free and enjoying life.<\/p>\n Ron<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Out of all the elements involved in an image sometimes for me it’s the light that “outshines” all others.<\/p>\n
