I have never seen any species of bird nesting as late as the second week in October in northern Utah.\u00a0 Until yesterday.<\/p>\n

I took this shot of three American Coot chicks in a nest yesterday morning at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area.\u00a0 I was astounded to see nesting birds of any species this far north at this time of year.<\/p>\n

Perhaps I’m just ignorant of what really goes on “out there” so I’m looking for some feedback.\u00a0 Has anyone else seen chicks of any species\u00a0still in the nest this far north this late in the year?\u00a0 I’ve seen a report on BNA Online\u00a0of a pair of coots that nested year around but that was in Florida.<\/p>\n

Obviously I’m very interested in any feedback you might\u00a0provide but I’m leaving this morning\u00a0on another camping\/photo trip (this time I’m going south instead of to Montana\u00a0–\u00a0who knows what I’ll find, or not…) so\u00a0I’ll be without computer access and won’t be able to respond to comments in a timely fashion.\u00a0 But you can bet that I’ll be reading any comments that may be made on my phone with great interest.<\/p>\n

Sometimes my curiosity drives me nuts.<\/p>\n
