<\/p>\nIn contrast to my post yesterday of a juvenile Swainson’s Hawk, this bird is an adult.\u00a0 In fact it’s the parent of that juvenile.\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0 seldom post the same species back to back but I thought the comparison might be interesting.<\/p>\n

\u00a01\/1600, f\/7.1, ISO 500, Canon 7D, Canon EF500mm f\/4L IS II USM +1.4 tc, not baited, set up or called in\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n This single adult (I never saw the other parent) kept a watchful eye over its two youngsters as they learned to hunt grasshoppers in Montana’s Centennial Valley earlier this month.\u00a0 Here he\/she is circling the general area as the two juveniles were perched on fence posts and stalking the grasses below.\u00a0 In this image I like the background, wing position and particularly the light on the front and top of the hawk against the darker trees behind the bird.<\/p>\n For the last few days we’ve been deluged by rain here in the “desert” and it looks like it’s going to continue for several days more so I haven’t been able to\u00a0photograph birds for a while.\u00a0 Cabin fever is setting in.\u00a0\u00a0We really need the moisture so I try<\/em>\u00a0 to look at the bright (wet and dark…)\u00a0side.\u00a0 The level of the Great Salt Lake is at near historic lows and Antelope Island is close\u00a0to being “dry docked”.<\/p>\n The rain should help but this bird photographer is\u00a0having withdrawal symptoms.<\/p>\n Ron<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In contrast to my post yesterday of a juvenile Swainson’s Hawk, this bird is an adult.
