Yesterday a comment from one of my readers on a recent post\u00a0got me thinking about Prairie Falcons.\u00a0 In the comment “James” said ”\u00a0I would love to see some more shots of the prairie falcon if you have any”.\u00a0 I’d been considering posting more images of this beautiful female and that comment prompted me to get off my duff and finally do it.<\/p>\n

This bird hung around the Antelope Island causeway for a couple of winters and a few times I was actually\u00a0able to get close to her.\u00a0 Getting close to a wild Prairie Falcon isn’t an everyday occurrence (understatement!) and I won’t soon forget my experience with her.\u00a0\u00a0 She chose a rock perch that I like and the background is the Great Salt Lake.<\/p>\n

After photographing her for a few minutes I removed my teleconverter for possible take-off.\u00a0 As some falcons are prone to do she lifted her wings and held them there momentarily just before she launched but when she took off she turned to her left and faced mostly away from me so I deleted those shots.\u00a0 I sure liked this pose though.<\/p>\n

I’ve posted several images of this falcon in the past but these two are new to my blog.<\/p>\n
