\u00a0\u00a0\u00a01\/1250, f\/5.6, ISO 500, Canon 7D, Canon 100-400 @ 260mm, not baited, set up or called in<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nWe photographed the eagle for a few minutes and then decided to go on down the road and look for other birds but doing so put us closer to the perch-tree as we very slowly passed it.\u00a0 The eagle put its wings up and held this approximate position for perhaps 10 seconds so I couldn’t resist stopping again to\u00a0photograph the interesting pose and possible take-off.\u00a0\u00a0 Holding this pose for so long\u00a0was a behavior that was new to me for this species.<\/p>\n

I often photograph Bald Eagles in Utah during winter but for me those images have a different\u00a0and perhaps less desirable mood\u00a0because they’re often taken near urban environments and for me they don’t convey the feeling of wildness that I so love about the Centennial Valley.\u00a0 And I very seldom get anything\u00a0“green” in my Utah Bald Eagle\u00a0images taken in winter.<\/p>\n

\u00a01\/125, f\/6.3, ISO 500, Canon 40D, Canon 17-85 @ 17mm<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nThis image should give you a feeling for what I’m talking about.\u00a0 It was taken as we left camp (on the\u00a0morning before\u00a0we encountered the eagle)\u00a0just as the sun was coming up in the east over the Greater Yellowstone area.\u00a0 The\u00a0South Road hugs the base of the mountains in the background and we photographed the eagle not too far out of frame to the right.\u00a0 The majority of the huge Centennial Valley extends almost\u00a030 miles to the right (west)\u00a0and you’re looking at the western boundary of Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife\u00a0Refuge in the foreground of this image.<\/p>\n
The Centennial Valley is my nirvana.\u00a0 It keeps me (relatively) sane.<\/p>\n
