<\/p>\nGetting light in the eye of a Barn Owl in flight is often a challenge because of their deeply set eyes but when you throw in the dark foreboding skies of an approaching storm it becomes even more difficult.<\/p>\n

1\/2000, f\/8, ISO 400, 500 f\/4, 1.4 tc, natural light, not\u00a0baited, set up or called in<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n This\u00a0bird was hunting for voles along the\u00a0edges of stands of phragmites and since there was snow on the ground I’d normally have a chance to get at least\u00a0some light in the eye from light that was reflected off of the snow’s surface.\u00a0 But on this morning the dark clouds behind me prevented that\u00a0from happening.<\/p>\n I believe that birds are fully aware of approaching storms and this owl was relentless in its attempt to find food before the bad weather hit\u00a0when it would likely have to hunker down for cover.\u00a0\u00a0 For me, light in the eye always gives the bird “life” and I wish I had it here but there’s\u00a0also something about the mood of the moment and the situation\u00a0that appeals to me.<\/p>\n Ron<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Getting light in the eye of a Barn Owl in flight is often a challenge because of their deeply set eyes but when you throw in the dark foreboding skies of an approaching storm it becomes even more difficult.<\/p>\n
