{"id":18952,"date":"2013-10-03T05:55:16","date_gmt":"2013-10-03T11:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/?p=18952"},"modified":"2013-10-03T05:55:16","modified_gmt":"2013-10-03T11:55:16","slug":"the-last-of-the-hummingbirds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/featheredphotography.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/03\/the-last-of-the-hummingbirds\/","title":{"rendered":"The Last Of The Hummingbirds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night a local birder reported a Black-chinned Hummingbird in his back yard here in the Salt Lake Valley and I\u00a0was quite surprised to hear about it.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t seen a hummingbird for several weeks and I thought that by now, with our significantly colder weather of late, they&#8217;d have all moved on for warmer climes.\u00a0 That particular bird must be a hardy one.\u00a0 Or lost&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But the news reminded me that before the snow flies I planned on posting a few more images of the hummers I photographed on Antelope Island several weeks ago.\u00a0 There were two or three species of them feeding on the nectar of\u00a0Rocky Mountain Bee Plant\u00a0and since I struggle with\u00a0the ID of hummingbirds (females and juveniles, especially)\u00a0I&#8217;ve decided to avoid the likely error of misidentification and simply call these birds &#8220;hummers&#8221; this is one of them.<\/p>\n<p>This particular clump of twigs was troublesome for the photographer because there were so many of them (twigs)\u00a0that the bird perching there was often partially obscured.\u00a0 Several days later I noticed that someone had obviously cut all but one of\u00a0them down, leaving behind a single, clean perch.\u00a0 I was disappointed because by definition it was now a &#8220;set-up&#8221;
