Graphic Lines &#8211; A Matter Of Taste"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been a fan of strong graphic lines in my images ever since my friend <a href=\"https:\/\/richditch.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/22\/\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Ditch<\/a>\u00a0introduced me to their potential a few years ago.\u00a0 The source of those lines\u00a0may be natural or unnatural but since my subjects are mostly birds and many of them perch on fences, my graphic lines are often provided by fence wires.\u00a0 In some ways I&#8217;d prefer natural elements in my images but wires can also be compositionally and visually\u00a0interesting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u00a01\/2500, f\/7.1, ISO 500, 500 f\/4, 1.4 tc, natural light<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This adult White-crowned Sparrow flew in and perched on a nearby fence recently while I was photographing a Red-tailed Hawk in Montana&#8217;s Centennial Valley.\u00a0 The hawk was perched\u00a0at an angle that was too steep so I momentarily\u00a0redirected the aim of my lens toward the sparrow.\u00a0 At the time I didn&#8217;t have particularly high expectations for the sparrow images but while reviewing them I was immediately attracted to the strong graphic lines provided by the wire against the otherwise clean background.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/eastern-kingbird-3918-ron-dudley.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"18613\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<em><strong>\u00a01\/1250, f\/10, ISO 500, 500 f\/4, 1.4 tc, natural light<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is an older image, taken in mid July, 2008 near Farmington Bay.\u00a0 The graphic lines are particularly strong (which may be good or bad, depending on tastes)\u00a0and I like the contrast between the apparent\u00a0vulnerability of the Eastern Kingbird fledgling\u00a0and the bold, almost aggressive-looking wire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Unnatural wire and strong graphic lines won&#8217;t appeal to everyone and that&#8217;s as it should be &#8211; if we all had the same tastes, life would be less interesting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But for me they sometimes contribute visually compelling
