shyloh\" src=\"http:\/\/featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/nest-box-shyloh.jpg\" width=\"507\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/nest-box-shyloh.jpg 507w, https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/nest-box-shyloh-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/nest-box-shyloh-84x150.jpg 84w, https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/nest-box-shyloh-400x710.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Photo used by permission – thank you Shyloh<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But on May 11\u00a0my good friend Shyloh Robinson reported that the box had fallen from its tree and broken open with predictable and disastrous results.\u00a0 Shyloh spends more time at Farmington Bay and monitors the Barn Owls out there more closely\u00a0than anyone\u00a0I know and he reports numerous owl carcasses, likely winter-killed, being found this spring.\u00a0 So the destruction of this nest box at such a crucial time was particularly unfortunate.\u00a0 A new Barn Owl\u00a0nest box in the general area of this one remains unused.<\/p>\n<p>In the distant past and in my ignorance I always looked forward to being able to see and photograph Barn Owls during extremely cold winters.<\/p>\n<p>In the future I will dread it.<\/p>\n<p>Ron<\/p>\n<p><em>Note:\u00a0 I’ll be out of town\u00a0for a few days this week with no computer access and a\u00a0limited and unreliable cell phone signal so I’ll likely\u00a0get\u00a0any comments you may leave (via email) but I won’t be able to respond to them until I return.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago I reported a Glimmer of Hope for our Barn Owls.
