1\/1600, f\/8, ISO 400, 500 f\/4, 1.4 tc, natural light<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nApparently this bird was “canopy feeding” – bringing both wings forward to form a canopy, the shadow from which attracts fish.\u00a0\u00a0I know it’s a fairly common behavior in some egrets and herons but I was quite surprised to see it from a Great Blue.\u00a0 My research finds no mention of it with the species.<\/p>\n
So, I’m curious enough\u00a0to ask if any of my readers have seen this behavior in Great Blue Herons.\u00a0\u00a0I know that some of you\u00a0observe them much more than I do and I’m wondering if it’s something I’ve just missed seeing by chance or if this is unusual for them.\u00a0 Or maybe the bird was\u00a0doing something else…?<\/p>\n
