I’m sorry to say that\u00a0rampant\u00a0copyright infringement\u00a0and outright image theft have forced me to make an unwanted\u00a0change to my blog.<\/p>\n

In the past,\u00a0those who have signed up for\u00a0email subscriptions or the RSS feed\u00a0have received\u00a0the\u00a0entire post in those versions, including images.\u00a0 I have disabled the ability to “right-click download” the images\u00a0from my blog but I don’t have that option with the RSS feed or subscription versions.<\/p>\n

In an attempt to prevent at least some of the theft I have now\u00a0altered my settings so that the RSS feeds and email subscriptions will no longer include images – only a “summary” of the blog.\u00a0 This will be inconvenient for some since readers will now have to click the link to the blog to see the images.\u00a0\u00a0I regret that but I finally reached the point where\u00a0I had to do something.<\/p>\n

This is one of the images I’ve had the most trouble with but there are countless others.\u00a0 Content scrapers may force me to make additional changes in the future\u00a0but at this\u00a0point I’m resisting doing things like posting much\u00a0smaller photos or pasting ugly watermarks across the entire image.<\/p>\n

I have no control over who signs up for the email notifications or the RSS feeds.\u00a0 Many of the content scrapers are from a few foreign countries and I have blocked several of those countries from access to my blog but that’s only a partial solution and the problem persists.\u00a0 So much of my time is now spent filing DMCA takedown\u00a0requests that it threatens to interfere with my time in the field with birds, which is unacceptable.\u00a0\u00a0Thus the change.<\/p>\n

I realize this will not stop savvy thieves.\u00a0 But it may help and I had to try.<\/p>\n

I apologize for any inconvenience.<\/p>\n
