I had an enjoyable day yesterday while\u00a0photographing birds with Mia and Brian Gatlin, a friend from northern Arizona.\u00a0 Since we shoot from my pickup I was the “designated driver” and\u00a0wasn’t able to do much photography but we\u00a0did see\u00a0a lot of great birds and I\u00a0enjoyed the conversation immensely (in spite of the good-natured but merciless teasing from Mia that I endured all day…)<\/p>\n

Strange as it may seem, over the years I’ve had much\u00a0more success getting Barn Owl shots I like while they’re in flight\u00a0than I have while they’re perched\u00a0because of their tendency to land on unattractive and unnatural\u00a0perches like metal posts and signs.\u00a0\u00a0But this\u00a0owl allowed us close while perched in a tree that didn’t have too many distracting branches in the setting.<\/p>\n
