{"id":104385,"date":"2021-11-24T05:53:34","date_gmt":"2021-11-24T12:53:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/?p=104385"},"modified":"2021-11-24T08:48:36","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T15:48:36","slug":"some-recent-birds-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/24\/some-recent-birds-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Some Recent Birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five photos, five species.<\/p>\n<p>My pickin’s for this edition of “Some Recent Birds” were pretty slim due to mostly poor shooting weather for the last few weeks and the problems I had in the recent past with a defective lens that had to be sent to Canon for repair. What makes this bird notable for me is the band on its right leg. I find photos like this one interesting because of the furious action represented by the flying water and because the behavior is so very difficult to photograph, even poorly like in this shot.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the four vertical water splashes were made by the furiously pumping feet of the pursued grebe that we can’t see because it’s already out of frame to the bottom left – an excellent indicator of how incredibly fast the action was. I’m grateful to this bird because, due to heat wave distortion, my photos of it were the first reasonably sharp shots I got all morning. This shot was taken in a burst just prior to the photo of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.featheredphotography.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/23\/northern-harrier-takeoff-from-a-tumbleweed-perch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the same harrier I posted yesterday<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>I was extremely relieved to confirm that my soft shots were due to heat wave distortion rather than another problem with my lens.
