This is one of the very few times I’ve ever been able to get three Western Grebe chicks and both of their parents in the same photo and get them all sharp. The whole fam damily.
Chicks this age always give me hope for the future. I guess I needed some reassurance after worrying about the late breeding pair of Western Grebes I photographed a few days ago.
I decided to post baby grebe hitchhikers this morning in the hope they will have a positive effect on my current funk. I suspect some of my readers could use a similar attitude adjustment.
Grebes of all species very rarely try to walk or even come out of the water onto a solid surface. Because of their unusual anatomy standing and walking are almost impossible tasks but this one made the attempt anyway. The results were hilarious.
Yesterday I had a meeting with the new manager of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge regarding questions and concerns I had about recent management decisions affecting the refuge. Here’s what I found out.
