My trip to the “white world” of Box Elder County two days ago produced close encounters with several species including a small covey of Gray Partridges.
Yesterday morning I had to drive about 100 miles north before I escaped the foggy, smoggy mess in the valleys that we call air during these extended inversions. This beautiful hawk was one of my rewards.
It’s my contention that “muscle memory”, fast reflexes and quick thinking are more important in bird photography than they are in most other types of photography.
I’ve had several requests from readers asking me to post some of the clipped shots I took of yesterday’s Rough-legged Hawk taking off. This sequential series of five images is my response to those requests and it includes two additional photos that weren’t clipped.
Occasionally the frozen moments in my photographs allow me to see something that really piques my curiosity. And makes me wonder about the relationships between natural selection, behaviors and structural adaptations.
Please do not pin my images on Pinterest, Tumblr or any other pinning site or social media or use them for anything else without my express permission (and that includes using them as models for paintings, drawings or tattoos etc.).
