At least I think it’s the same bird I photographed four days ago. They were in the same area, they were both young birds and they were using the same hunting technique from the same fence line.
Yesterday I posted a single photo out of a series of photos I took of an immature Ferruginous Hawk two days ago in the west desert. In that post I said I’d be posting more of them very soon. These are those photos.
Two, count’em TWO, magnificent Golden Eagles right in front of me to choose from but I didn’t even see the one that would have been the best opportunity by far until it was too late.
Yesterday was a Red-tailed Hawk kind of day.
The first flight sequence was anticipated and planned for but getting the second kingfisher in flight was nothing but reflexes and pure dumb luck.
A colorful bird on an attractive natural perch in the mountains and a lucky takeoff shot.
And a close to perfect landing spot.
It’s been a while since I had any luck with my favorite Belted Kingfisher but yesterday morning he came through for me once again.
Once in a great while in bird photography things go unexpectedly right instead of unexpectedly wrong.
