I’ve been monitoring a Red-tailed Hawk nest in the mountains of Tooele County for at least 7 years now. It isn’t close to the road and I never approach it on foot to avoid disturbing the hawks but I have a good view of it through my long lens.
Watching a clumsy young hawk attempt to learn new skills always makes me feel sympathetic for its plight but I’ll admit to being more amused than anything.
One of the skills that can be of immense value to the bird photographer (and of interest to birders of every persuasion) is the ability to predict when they might take off.
