A couple of weeks ago I documented a Belted Kingfisher being repeatedly attacked by a Barn Swallow. Yesterday morning it happened again but this time I managed to get the attacking swallow in several of the photos.
Lately I’ve been on a roll when it comes to photos of birds being attacked by other birds. Yesterday morning in the mountains the victim was once again a kingfisher but this time the image quality is very good.
There are very few bird photographers who don’t bellyache about the elusiveness of Belted Kingfishers and I’ve done more than my share of whining about it myself.
I’ve bitched and moaned for years about how difficult kingfishers are to get close to but yesterday morning this amazingly cooperative female made me feel guilty about badmouthing them for it.
Kingfishers are hard enough to capture while perched but photographing them well in flight increases the degree of difficulty by several orders of magnitude.
