Yesterday I documented the prenuptial flight of the male Red-tailed Hawk that I photographed two days ago in northern Utah. Today that story is continued with their mating.
I sometimes liken American White Pelicans to B–52 Stratofortresses – they often fly at great heights and they’re not very agile in flight but man are they ever impressive during landings.
From my winters living in Montana I remember what it’s like to drive through snow like this. Flying through it in flocks of other birds must be even more harrowing, in part because of its three dimensional challenges in significantly reduced visibility.
Why does the trailing edge of the wings of some sub-adult Bald Eagles in flight have an irregular appearance rather than the “straight-cut” look of most other eagles?
