Yesterday was a good day. Despite the “soup” in our valleys I was able to get some shots that begin to confirm that my lens may be working properly again and I met one of my blog followers from out-of-town.

I had my second opportunity of the season with a Barn Owl in flight yesterday morning at Bear River MBR.
I’ve never before been able to get this many sharp images of a bird in flight in a single pass.
I enjoy seeing the flight adjustments made by a large raptor as it comes in to land.
In many of my images of this Barn Owl it was coming straight at me but in this series I was able to get a quartering angle on the bird.
This Barn Owl was hunting near the road in front of me so I pulled over and angled my pickup for a lucky shot or two just in case the bird came my way.
Several readers have said recently that they’d like to see occasional images from my archives. These American Kestrel photos are my attempt to deliver on that request.
The occasional Bald Eagle lurks near the west end of the Antelope Island causeway for good reason – lots of potential prey. The open water near the bridge attracts a variety of waterfowl so falcons and eagles are sometimes seen in the area.
When it’s this cold and snowy Barn Owls are flying during daytime over much of northern Utah. They’re often not easy to find but when you do locate one they can be fairly cooperative.
