It’s been two years since I’ve posted images of this species but yesterday morning at Farmington Bay WMA I had some luck with them (yes, the gate at Farmington is now open).
This pugnacious juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron decided to take on a group of Snowy Egrets for the best fishing spot in this pond at Bear River MBR three days ago.
Great Egrets are unusual in my area but we occasionally get a few individuals in winter. Unfortunately this bird chose to hang around during one of our harshest winters in years and the heron struggled to survive. I don’t know if it succeeded.
Please do not pin my images on Pinterest, Tumblr or any other pinning site or social media or use them for anything else without my express permission (and that includes using them as models for paintings, drawings or tattoos etc.).
