Plus… Is backyard bird feeding comparable to the unethical and often illegal practice of baiting raptors? Yesterday’s post caused at least some confusion on that subject so I’d like to set the record straight.
The final update on my stolen magpie image. My title may make it appear like I’m gloating about this outcome or rubbing their noses in it. Far from it. But I want to strongly make the point that our actions have consequences.
The moral and ethical behavior of my own species often appalls me but a very recent event has reminded me that I shouldn’t color with a brush too broad.
With their eyes completely surrounded by white and an orange bill I think Clark’s Grebes have a slightly more elegant appearance than the nearly identical Western Grebe. But I love spending time with both species, especially when they’re back brooding chicks.
There’s more negative fallout caused by baiting raptors than many are aware of and some of it affects our fellow photographers who don’t bait and never have. I’ve been stewing about this for a while now so I finally had to get it off my chest.
