At least those youngsters on the Montana family farm like to wander but they’re always raised in the dark and confined interiors of old granaries. I’ve often wondered if GHO chicks raised in trees do the same thing at this tender age but I have little experience with that situation.
With their eyes completely surrounded by white and an orange bill I think Clark’s Grebes have a slightly more elegant appearance than the nearly identical Western Grebe. But I love spending time with both species, especially when they’re back brooding chicks.
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted any curlew photos but these migratory birds recently returned to northern Utah and my first opportunity to photograph them up close this year was three days ago on Antelope Island.
