Occasionally physical variations in birds cause me to do a double-take. That’s exactly what happened yesterday morning with a Great Horned Owl in Box Elder County and in this case it was because of the length of its ear tufts (“horns”).
Most of the Great Horned Owls I post were photographed in Montana. This one’s from Utah and it demonstrates some interesting geographic variation in color.
Owls are known for their inscrutable look – their mysterious and enigmatic demeanor. This Great Horned Owl and I spent quite a while trying to figure each other out.
