Recently I’ve seen several “roughies” at a distance but they were only tiny specks in my viewfinder or flying away from me. Finally, yesterday morning this adult male took pity on me.
White-crowned Sparrows are common in my area but they’re a favorite of mine and I see far more juveniles than adults so I was pleased to get this handsome adult up close in my viewfinder.
The transformation of Bald Eagles from juveniles to adults typically takes five years. The process is gradual but when you compare the juveniles (1st winter) to the adults and skip all the intermediate subadult stages the differences between them are dramatic.
