Juvenile Mountain Bluebird – An Aborted Takeoff Or Something Else?

Sometimes it’s hard to assign motivation or intention to a behavior, especially when it involves an ungainly and inexperienced young bird.

And good excuse or bad excuse I’m gonna use it.

And a memory jog from my friend Jaimi Butler.

A single day can make a big difference in the learning curve of a very young Spotted Sandpiper.

Plus an adult male ‘wearing to dark’.

It’s all about expectations.

I’m regularly dazzled by the athletic abilities of birds. It happened again yesterday and this time it involved prey.

A species I’ve had very little luck with this year but yesterday morning my track record with them ticked up a little higher.

Same kingfisher and swallow as before but this time both the perch and background are different and the setting is much less cluttered.
