I’ve spent hundreds of hours with Pied-billed Grebes over the years and this is one of the few times I’ve managed to document this fairly unusual behavior. Its purpose/function still eludes me.
More than most birds kestrels are known for listening to the beat of their own personal drummer. So on Christmas morning I was flabbergasted when this male immediately filled my stated request when asked.
One of the fun things about takeoff shots is that a bird with little promise for interesting photos while it’s perched can instantly translate into exciting photos when it lifts off.
