I’ve photographed a variety of songbirds, wading birds and raptors throwing pellets but yesterday was the first time I’ve been able to document a wren of any species exhibiting the behavior.
Photographing hummingbirds during the landing process is more difficult than one might think so of course I missed the shots of the most incredible landing I’ve ever seen, from any bird of any species.
Any bird photographer who thinks they’re skilled at tracking birds in flight should attempt to photograph hummingbird aerial combat. It’s a humbling experience.
Black-chinned aren’t as colorful as the Rufous Hummingbirds I also photographed on these wild flowers but they gave me more interesting poses and behaviors.
