Catch lights are highly desirable, to the point that many bird photographers simply delete any photo that doesn’t have them (a painful process, to be sure).
Occasionally I take a photograph that seems to defy (my faulty?) logic. And when that happens I probably spend more time pondering over it than I should.
Most readers know that recently I had to send my 500mm lens into Canon for repair. I truly feel lost without it and my separation anxiety has been pretty intense but the FedEx man brought me the cure yesterday afternoon at 1:15.
There’s twelve images here but this post is really about my experience using Canon’s “new” EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens in combination with a 1.4 extender (teleconverter).
I’ve been yammering for years about the advantages to bird photographers of being familiar with the behaviors of our subjects. Here’s yet another example.
Please do not pin my images on Pinterest, Tumblr or any other pinning site or social media or use them for anything else without my express permission (and that includes using them as models for paintings, drawings or tattoos etc.).
