Recently I’ve been posting a few photos documenting bird behaviors I don’t understand. Earlier this week it happened again, this time with Cedar Waxwings.
The coyote obviously had crane cutlets in mind for breakfast but the cranes seemed to be taunting him, even daring him to attack. The attitude and demeanor of the cranes seemed to say “Give it your best shot, Buster”.
I’ve spent hundreds of hours with Pied-billed Grebes over the years and this is one of the few times I’ve managed to document this fairly unusual behavior. Its purpose/function still eludes me.
More than most birds kestrels are known for listening to the beat of their own personal drummer. So on Christmas morning I was flabbergasted when this male immediately filled my stated request when asked.
