A Reunion – It’s Been Almost Two Years Since I’ve Seen Her

On Dec 14, 2021, going on two years ago, I used the following introduction for my blog post on that day.

“Tradition.

It’s becoming traditional for me to post a photo or two of Shannon when she makes a trip to Utah to visit her ol’ dad, especially since her accident and resulting brain injury six years ago when we very nearly lost her. So, at the risk of making Feathered Photography come across as a wannabe Facebook clone, I decided to continue the tradition today.

After all, I get the impression that many of my readers have become emotionally invested to some degree in her progress and welfare so how could I not provide a pictorial update?”

Well, Shannon and her husband Rick are here for the weekend and we spent much of yesterday catching up, reminiscing about the past, looking at old photos, talking on speakerphone to my grandson Ryan in Florida and to old friends that Shannon hasn’t seen in decades. And just wallowing in each other’s company.

We were having so much fun I almost forgot to have photos taken to commemorate the occasion. Here we are, in my back yard just before sundown last night. Of course my eyes are half shut and I’m flashing my usual quarter-acre of forehead but at least I’m not wearing socks with my Birkenstocks. Shannon, as always, looks wonderful. Genes from her mother I guess.

Followers of Feathered Photography have been along for the ride ever since Shannon’s accident so I had to share a photo.

Back to birds soon, I hope.

Ron

  2. Oh so good to see her ( and you) looking so well.

  3. Awwwwe !! That’s a sweet photo !!! One for the occasion to be remembered for a long time !!

  4. So good to hear, and see, the news. Our families mean the world to us, and having your reunion must have been one of the best things you’ve done in a long time.

  5. ❤️❤️❤️

  6. It is wonderful to see Shannon! She looks wonderful and so happy. I wish you two lived closer so you could visit each other more often. Perhaps she and her husband have already left but if not, give Shannon a big hug from your readers. We are all happy that you have shared her journey to recovery with us and hope to see more reunions.

  7. A tradition WELL worth keeping. It is wonderful to see this photo and to know that you had more precious time with each other.

  8. A terrific catch-up for all of us…your family especially.

  9. A tradition well worth preserving and sharing! It’s wonderful to see how beautifully Shannon has recovered, and you’re lookin’ pretty good yourself for all you’ve been through this last year. Enjoy every moment together (as you have been)! ♥️

  10. She looks fantastic! Glad y’all had such a good day.

  11. Wonderful picture of the two of you! ❤️❤️ So glad you and Shannon are getting to spend this time together. Is Ryan going to college in Florida (and how did he grow up so fast — didn’t he just turn 13 last year? 😉)? Shannon is pretty darn amazing — just like her dad.

    • Oh, and there’s nothing wrong with “socks & ‘stocks!”😃

      • Marty, Ryan’s been going to college down there but he’s taking some time off now.

I’ve taken a lot of grief over the years from wearing socks and stocks together. But when it gets cold I’ll continue to do it.

  12. I am glad you are spending time with family! You are both looking good! Was the amaranth background for the post where you have talked about and given seed to followers? Family time and telling family stories must be in the air this fall from my experience and reading other blog posts. We sell many of Madeleine L’Engle’s books where I work in the warehouse, I liked the quote David Sparks posted, I should pick out a few of her books and read them. We have one writer in the family who has been collecting all the stories, mostly of our grandmother, Mimi’s amazing stories, she definitely took the path less traveled.

  13. As we get older every moment and every hour that we spend with people we love becomes more precious and special

  14. Luv it when you and Shannon can get together! 🙂 Shannon is looking great!

So is your Amaranth. Deer got most of my measly 2′ tall plants………..;) Will be a bit of seed scattered – perhaps next year will be better when it gets where it wants, when it wants! 😉

  15. I just spent 3 days with my 90 year young dad this past week…. Nothing like a hug from your dad!
Sounds like you enjoyed your visit

  16. Thanks for sharing the picture. Shannon is beautiful and I am happy you were able to be together.

  17. Thank you Ron for sharing that. I am visiting relatives
right now as well and it is a good feeling.

  18. Nice picture of Dad and Daughter that you share with us. It is always nice to have relatives visit. You both look great and having a good time.

I always enjoy it when my daughters come to visit. The older we get the more precious those moments are. So glad she took the time to come back to visit with you Ron. Thanks for sharing.

  20. What a happy photo! It is hopeful and the two of you look great, especially together.
    Take Care,

  21. Ron:

The “catching up, reminiscing about the past, and looking at old photos” is important. Somewhere I found this quote from Madeleine L’Engle, an American writer of fiction, non-fiction,poetry, and young adult fiction, including A Wrinkle in Time.
“If you don’t recount your family history, it will be lost. Honor your own stories and tell them too. The tales may not seem very important, but they are what binds families and makes each of us who we are.”

I used the quote in the preface of a photo book I just finished putting together entitled Family Gatherings. The goal of the book was to preserve the photos of family gatherings that I have (even if they may not seem very important) in a format that is accessible to family and friends when I am no longer around and my Lightroom catalogs no longer exist.

  22. This is wonderful! Shannon looks beautiful and classy as ever and you look like a proud father! Love and miss you both!

  23. Wonderful photo! Enjoy your visit! (Your amaranth is looking good, too!)

    • Carolyn, the amaranth you see in the photo is actually just some straggler volunteers that I didn’t end up digging up when they were small. My best amaranth is out of frame to the right.

  24. I’m with Michael– seeing you together with Shannon and both of you
upright, smiling, and healthy is a REAL UPPER in these days
of less-than-happy news…..thanks for the lift this morning!

  25. Always grateful for an update, Ron. I can’t believe it’s been six years since that scary day! Enjoy this precious time together.

  26. Thank you for sharing this Ron. You two look great.

With all the terrible global news as of late, this happy reunion post and photo of you and your daughter made my morning brighter.

  27. In my (humble) opinion, you both look great! Tell Shannon I say “hi” and try not to reminisce too much about anything that might have happened once upon a time. . . 😉

  28. Great to see you both! Have a fantastic get together!
