I never know what might happen to my daily blog posting schedule once I reach the wilds of Montana on one of my many camping trips to my home state. This morning I woke up to no cell signal at all so there was no way I could post (I use a mobile hotspot to access the internet).
So I spent muchย of the morning looking for a new campsite that met my need for relative solitude but still had internet access and I finally found one. It was about 50 miles away from the original campsite (mostly on dirt roads) but we’ve now completed the move and anticipate no more problems with posting.
This was my view at dawn this morning overlooking a pond next to Lower Red Rock Lake in the background. Lake fog is lifting off the lake (it was 24 degrees at dawn) and there are feeding avocets in the foreground pond. I’m no landscape photographer but this image should give you a feel for why I love it up here so much.
Now that I have a “home” again hopefully I’ll be able to get down to some serious bird photography.

Wow….what a sunrise!!! I thought I was having email issues when I didn’t get you blog first thing in the morning. I kept trying to get my mail to load thinking it was sitting somewhere out in cyber land!!
Oh and it used to be significantly more difficult to post on-deadline race reports with the old acoustic couplers and a TRS-80 from quaint places like Lime Rock Park, Connecticut. Just sayin’! I feel your pain ๐
Just WOW!! I’d think I’d die of bliss if I lived there.
Yep, got the email at 11:00 p.m., but that’s only because I was driving back home, needed a nap, and oh yes, a new puppy in the mix ๐
got the email and am now enjoying your pictures with the sounds of a wonderful bird outside my window whose song I cannot identify but do recognise and love. Perfect combination sight and sound
Beautiful Ron! We’ll understand and wait for the fruits of your efforts! Enjoy!

Hi, Ron, yes I got the typical email. I see why you love it but 24 degrees would be enough to deter me in spite of its beauty. Perhaps, now you know/understand why I live in Houston!
Hi Ron–I got the e-mail, but at 3:45 P.M…….your gorgeous photo reminded me so much of Bosque del Apache ( in New Mexico )that I momentarily “flashed back” !
I can see why you love it so…….I wish you a wonderful trip !
Yes, I received the link, but around 2:30. Not sure if the link went out late, or you posted late, but I did get it. Can I save this picture? It will be for me only. I very much respect your work, and would never pass it on.
Jean, yes, I posted very late today because of internet problems while camping and then having to move my campsite. I’ll respond to your request via email.
Hello Ron,
Yes to your query- I am a subscriber to your brilliant blog and I did receive an e-mail today with a link to this post. I really look forward to your steady posts with such glorious imagery and ‘stories’ – I hope you have a wonderful trip- looking forward to hearing about along the way Cheers
Oooh. And ahh.
I have no understanding of why you like it there. None. Nada. Zip. And yes, I am a stranger to the truth.
I did – beautiful sunrise! ๐
Thank you, Susan and Jean. I have a question for either of you (or anybody else who sees this). If you’re a subscriber to my blog did you get the email with the link to this blog post? That same email is normally sent to me too but this time I didn’t get it so I’m wondering if it went out at all…
Oh Ron, that is breath taking. Yes, I understand why you love it there!
You are a landscape photographer now! ๐ And yes, it is clear from the photo why you love that place. Hope you find lots of cooperative birds.
