Some of my readers are aware of my continuing quest for quality images of Golden Eagles in flight. I’m not there yet but I believe I’m making progress.
1/1600, f/7.1, ISO 500, Canon 7D, Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM @ 350mm, not baited, set up or called in
This is the same eagle as was featured in my post of 11 November. The bird had recently taken off from a power pole but enough time had passed so that it was in full flight with its legs tucked. I was happy to get the mountain in the background and light on the head, tail and part of one wing but the shadows are deeper than I like and the bird could be slightly sharper.
It’s not my best shot of a raptor in flight but hey, it’s my nemesis Golden Eagle and it’s better than most everything else I have of the species in flight so I decided to go with it. At least there aren’t any of those damned wires in the image this time…
I think I’m making some progress. The quest is half the fun but this one has been going on for a very long time…
Ron
Magnificent!!!
Wouldn’t life be boring if there wasn’t something more to aim for?
AWESOME!! Thanks Ron.
You are getting closer to capturing your nemesis! Nice shot! Always in awe of their talons – Yikes!
Thanks, Nancy. And yes, those ARE impressive talons.
Definitely time to pat yourself on the back. I love the intensity of that gaze – and the colours which are equally intense.
Ok, “pat, pat”, Elephant’s Child. Now, back to work (if we’d ever get any light…)
This is a gorgeous bird. 🙂
Thank you, Stephanie.
You have made more progress with your Golden Eagle than I have with getting a good shot of a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in flight. Wish I had a Scissor-tail shot this sharp.
Dave
I’m getting there, Dave. I wish you luck (and light) with your nemesis, too.
A fantatstic capture…love the intensity and sharpness of the light and shadows!!!
Thank you, Patty.
I think it’s a first-rate shot. The lighted areas are splendid, but even the darkened portions of the wings and underbody are impressive and give the bird an eerie Darth-like quality. Magnificent.
“Darth-like quality” – Hmmm, never thought of that, Bill. Interesting comparison. Thank you.
Just a beautiful shot – look at that eye!
You noticed that eye too, Dianne. I was glad to get a little color in it.
Yes, Ron, when opening a Golden pic from you, first I hold my breath while I look closely, and then I take a really deep breath and exhale with a smile. It was about the 3rd second of holding my breath that I saw that lighter brownish eye coloring with the my naked eye. I am still smiling. Sometimes I think these magnificent creatures pose, show-off, or ham-it-up just for you. Thank you for sharing this picture.
This is the most beautiful of your eagle pics. Golden neck, yellow feet, intense stare. Double wow!
Double thanks, Tana.
