This past summer we found a wonderful family of Barn Owls on Antelope Island. Of course they preferred one of the ugliest perches on the planet but what a treat to be able to photograph such a handsome familial group – presented here in ascending numbers of birds. I’ll let the owls “speak” for themselves.

These birds hung out together until mid-summer and then most of them dispersed. I was delighted that the entire brood was raised successfully and hope the same thing happens this coming season.

Excellent sequence showing 1 then 5 owls, what a wonderful find and encounter.
Thanks very much Jim. I’d sure like to get a similar sequence on a more pleasing perch – maybe it’ll happen one day…
Ron, you are such an inspiration. I have learned so very much from your posts! Your photos and descriptions are gifts!
Thank you Anne. Your thoughtful comment made my day!
Absolutely STUNNING photos!! There was a barn owl family outside of my workplace many years ago. Unfortunately the new landlord chopped down the trees that the owls were living it. My mom and I lay on our backs in the rocks and focused our cameras up into the green leaves and captured these wonderful creatures!
Thanks Nicole. I have an image in my mind of the two of you on your backs shooting up at the owls. Fun story.
They do in fact ‘speak’ for themselves. Outstanding post Ron.
Thank you Elephant’s Child and Malcollm. As far as perches go I tend to let them pick their own but at times I do wish their aesthetic standards were a little higher…
What a fabulous find .. 5 Barn Owls whoa. Maybe you could provide then a more suitable perch and hope they like it.
How truly lovely. Thank you. As usual, thank you lots.
