Ferruginous Hawk In Flight

I don’t often get close enough to Ferruginous Hawks for decent photos but this one seemed curious about me and flew in just close enough.

It may not be a spectacular shot but I enjoyed the head angle as this big buteo looked up at something that I never did see (though I suspect it was another raptor flying overhead).

Note: I’ll be out of town for a few days and expect to have spotty internet access at best so I’ll likely be unable to respond to many comments until my return

  1. Maybe not a spectacular shot by your standards, but I love the curiosity it evokes.

  2. Not only the angle of the head, but the sunlight streaming through those feathers makes this a stunning shot. Thank you so much.

    Fabulous!

  4. I love this shot. It took me a while to figure out the head angle… Definitely unusual. Nice detail in the photo, too. I think sometimes the ‘spectacular’ lies in the unusual aspects.

  5. Dear Ron, hawks seems the most majestic of birds–and animals to me. Peace.

  6. Even raptors have to watch thier own back…..great shot!
